Profile:
Lori qualified as CA(SA) in 2007 after completing her articles at a small and medium (2nd tier) audit firm.
She started her articles at a small audit firm based on the East Rand in 2000. The audits she was involved included numerous engineering concerns and small manufacturing entities, as well as insurance brokers and even an airline. Lori also completed quite a few “box jobs” which she enjoyed.
After the completion of her articles, she joined a listed entity that manufactures fertilizer and is prominent in the agriculture industry. Lori spent 13 years learning and growing there. It was there that she discovered her interest in and enjoyment of tax. She has an aptitude for identifying issues and updating or implementing new business processes to ensure the same issues do not recur. Lori’s ability to apply her technical knowledge to practical day-to-day business activities to ensure compliance across multiple functions while still maintaining business efficiencies and reducing related compliance costs and risks is an area she is particularly skilled in.
As her career developed, she progressed towards specialising in tax and in the end, she was responsible for all tax matters (income tax, VAT, customs tax, transfer pricing, SARS audit etc.) for the group, which included VAT training at the various business units across the country. Lori also gained experience in dealing with SARS disputes and consulting with attorneys and advocates on matters to be presented to tax court.
