In 1997, Gillian relocated from Johannesburg to Cape Town and joined a large registered auditing practice, Mazars Moores Rowland as an intermediate bookkeeper. She had previously worked for 3 years in commerce as a bookkeeper and office manager whilst studying towards her B Comm. degree.

In the auditing profession, she was responsible for a large portfolio of client's work, including bookkeeping, accounting, preparation and submission of monthly and annual statutory returns, preparation of monthly management accounts, annual working paper files and drafting of financial statements as well as setting up of clients' accounting systems and controls. During this time, she was promoted to Client Accounting Supervisor with 6 staff members reporting to her. It was also Gillian's additional responsibility to review all annual working paper files and management accounts prepared by the accounting staff as well as assisting them with their technical queries.

Gillian decided to resign from her position in April 2001 to join Business Accounting Network as the 4th Associate.
